Olaf Court Latest News Update of 21 January 2022

Work is continuing on the main roof. Work this week was:-

Completion of fitting the first layer of steel beams.

Delivery and started fitting the timber joists between steel beams.

Cutting of the concrete front window surrounds

M&E started as that has to run in conjunction with fitting the timber beams. Given the height restrictions we are running the service pipes through the timber joists rather than beneath.

Work for next week:-

Continuing fitting the timber joists

Continue cutting the front concrete. We are aware that this cutting work is horrific in terms of noise, dust etc but we are trying our best to limit the inconvenience.  We stopped for a couple of days this week and we are using a water system to keep the dust down but the sooner we get it done the better for all. There is around 3/4 weeks of this left and then things will be much quieter.

Major delivery of timber beams and as can be seen the Traffic Management Plan is working well. Even crane deliveries are not interrupting the traffic flow. Vehicles are able to stay within the white lines.

First level of steel beams now fitted

Purpose made timber joist delivery

Difficult process of removing the front windows concrete surrounds

With the concrete surrounds removed.

Purpose made floor joists being fitted. Absolutely crucial that these are perfectly level! A complicated build and the photo also shows the minimum space beneath the steel beams over the existing roof covering. No height is being wasted.

A very complicated build and as we are taking the service pipes through the steel beams we have to ensure that firstly we know where the pipes are going and secondly that the steel is designed with the large holes taking away some of the strength.
